Another winter storm has arrived and has affected Medford Township since Friday evening and has extended into Saturday. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning for our area that included snow accumulation predictions of 10 to 16 inches. Additionally, heavy winds in excess of 25 mph were forecast, this can create blowing snow conditions that reduce visibility to zero during the storm making any travel extremely dangerous.
A winter storm such as the current weather event can be deceiving. Even smaller amounts of accumulation can cause problems, especially in rural areas as found in some parts of our township. Many fatalities from vehicular accidents occur as a result of slippery roads due to rapid icing and low visibility. Additionally, downed trees and power outages can be caused by heavy, wet snow or ice accumulation.
In anticipation of the forecast for this weekend, Medford Township’s salt and plow crews will be out beginning this afternoon. Crews will be salting and plowing all roads starting main roads, followed by secondary streets. Developments and cul-de-sacs will be done last. Crews will remain until the storm ends.
PLEASE TRY TO KEEP CARS OFF THE ROADS DURING THE STORM SO PLOWS CAN PLOW THE ROADS.
